Vioxx®
November
2007 - Vioxx®
Update
for clients of the Law Offices of Stuart. A. Kritzer, P.C.
On September 30, 2004, Merck & Co., Inc. announced a voluntary withdrawal of Vioxx® (rofecoxib) from the U.S. and worldwide markets, due to safety concerns. The withdrawal came after a Merck study showed again that Vioxx® increased the risk of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and other cardiovascular injuries.
Merck withdrew Vioxx® from the market based on long-term clinical study (APPROVe) in which Vioxx® was used to treat patients who were at risk of developing recurring colon polyps. The researchers stopped the study when they found that patients who took Vioxx® had an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes compared with those who took a placebo (a sugar pill).
While taking Vioxx®, have you or someone you know…
- Suffered a heart attack?
- Suffered a stroke?
