Traumatic Brain Injury: Vicky's Story

The human brain is the control center of the human body.  It directs all thoughts, feelings, movements, actions and reactions. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. This can happen when the head suddenly and violently accelerates and then decelerates, even without hitting anything!  It can also occur when the head hits an object or when the skull is pierced by a sharp object which enters the brain tissue, causing disruption to normal brain functions. A TBI can have catastrophic, life-changing physical and psychological effects.
